Irina is the highest ranked woman in the US. She won the US Womens Championship at the age of 14! She has shown flashes of
brilliance as she attained a Grandmaster norm in the 2001 Mayor’s Cup, held here in New York City. Her consistency is
lacking however, as she can follow up a fantastic result with a subpar result. She is a very diverse player, feeling
comfortable in both complicated and simple positions. She is very sharp theoretically and can successfully play both d4
and e4.
